Pollyanne; aptly named I consider myself a "Pollyanna" of sorts - someone who seems always to be able to find something to be "glad" about no matter what circumstances arise. It is sometimes used pejoratively, referring to someone whose optimism is excessive to the point of naïveté or refusing to accept the facts of an unfortunate situation. I suppose it's for others to judge whether this is accurate or not - either way life throws up it's challenges over this we have no power....we do,however, have the power to choose how to continue; in the same direction - in a different direction or somewhere in the middle?

A man's worth?

Day off ! Horrah! Feeling exceedingly smug having very nearly completed all Christmas shopping, card writing and wrapping! Wonderful afternoon in the bleakness of Skegness blizzards - Coffee Bean and shoe shopping with Harriet - I call it therapy.

Now full flow into Panto mode - oh yes it is - but a little altered this year - not so slap-stick and silly but timeless, charming and thought provoking if you have the time (which I do being home alone 2 evenings this week).

"All mortals envy me, yet better perhaps for Hook to have had less ambition! O fame, fame, thou glittering bauble"
What a terrific line - transverses decades and generations the same - question - is it better to have wild ambition and strive to fulfill it's highest potential or to fight the pressures of expected ambitious ascent and settle; in moderate contentment?

Claiming to own no ambition is sneered upon (and must be simply untrue) to confess to burning ambition is scoffed at? The result - must we lie - always - it's the fashion and always has been I guess.

The "last refuge of failure" or the "shadow of a dream"

Never-the-less to all Panto goers - laugh long and loud at the Dame with his rhymes and toilet humour but also take time to listen out for soliloquies containing hidden truths portrayed in most festive productions - the contrasts - the morals - forming the basis of every well scripted story.

Failing that buy tickets for Nana & Grandad to take the little darlings whilst you go to the pub!

  1. "All mortals envy me, yet better perhaps for Hook to have had less ambition! O fame, fame, thou glittering bauble". I settled for the latter and am not disappointed.

Study the lives of great Actors and Commedians who have reached the pinnacle of there carrier and you will find a Genius, a perfectionist but look closer and notice how hard they are on them selves and how hard they are to live with. a few find a balance but many fail and are very unhappy.
